Winner of Contractor’s Association of Truckee Tahoe’s 2016
“Commercial Remodel of the Year” Award
We are pleased to share that Bruce Olson Construction was announced as the winner of CATT’s annual award for Commercial Remodel of the Year for Cedar Crest Cottages. This project will soon be featured in print in the next issue of CATT’s Building and Remodeling Guide.
Commercial Remodel of the Year
The cottages, originally built in 1933 as lodging for hunters, over the decades saw many uses, eventually deteriorating into an eyesore overlooking Lake Tahoe. The County’s requirement to use the historic location and footprint of each cottage presented a challenge, since the floor plans of the 80-year old cottages were too small for comfortable living. Creative reconfiguration and talented craftsmanship resulted in functional, modern interiors with a user-friendly connected series of pathways to a common outdoor gathering place. A well-executed collaboration between architect and builder now provides its guests a unique resort destination on the West Shore.

28th Annual Lake of the Sky Garden Club Tour
We are pleased to announce that a home our landscape department planted and maintains will be featured on this year’s Lake of the Sky Garden Club tour. Coincidentally, this is the same home that won the 2015 “Project of the Year” Award from CATT.
This event will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016, from 10 am to 4 pm on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. Eight of Truckee’s finest gardens will be accessible to attendees. Some gardens will also feature artwork by local artists.
Attendees will be required to purchase tickets from the Lake of the Sky Garden Club to attend. Tickets for the event will sold beginning on June 15th for $25 at local nurseries, including the Villager Nursery in Truckee, Perennial Nursery in Tahoe Vista, High Sierra Gardens in Incline Village and Tahoe Tree Nursery in Tahoe City. The tour typically sells out. More information about the event can be found here.

“Project of the Year” and “Residential Remodel of the Year” Awards
We are pleased to share that Bruce Olson Construction was announced as the winner of two of CATT’s annual awards. Rocky Point Lodge was named Project of the Year, while Hazel’s Hideaway won Residential Remodel of the Year. Both projects will soon be featured in print in the next issue of CATT’s Building and Remodeling Guide.
Rocky Point Lodge – Project of the Year
Designed for its lakefront location with fondness for outdoor living, this home has it all. Large doorways open the great room, kitchen and fire nook to panoramic views and connect to the main level outdoor dining area. A stroll across the elevated interior walkway looks over a tumbling waterfall to one side, while an indoor climbing wall rises opposite over the game area, billiard room, bar, loft playroom and adjacent home theater. Well-appointed bedrooms, featuring the comfort of easy-to-operate smart home controls, integrate with the surrounding landscape on the lower level.
Hazel’s Hideaway – Residential Remodel of the Year
Enhancing the character of the residence and paying homage to the glamorous spirit of its former owner, a 1940’s actress, was paramount to the architect and builder’s vision. The remodeled home is a far cry from its former self. A connection to nature was created by extending a wall of windows to the roof peak, fully opening the interior to breathtaking views. The addition expanded the open floor plan, while keeping original ceilings and log posts intact. The elegant palette of finish materials is complimented by custom furnishings, fixtures, and a collection of Hazel’s movie memorabilia and sculptures.
